Mike Powe
John E. Sawyer Postdoctoral Fellow | Dr. Michael Powe is an interdisciplinary scholar interested in the intersections of urban redevelopment and revitalization, processes of community formation and division, and issues of social inequality and exclusion. His dissertation focused on the manifold transformations and consequences of upscale loft development for the diverse residents and businesses of a historically neglected neighborhood, Los Angeles’s Skid Row. Dr. Powe’s work has been recognized with the Urban Affairs Association’s 2008 Alma H. Young Emerging Scholar Award, as well as funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and the University of California, Irvine’s Public Impact Fellowship. Mike holds a Master of Urban and Regional Planning degree (2006) and a doctorate in Planning, Policy, and Design (2010), both from the University of California, Irvine, as well as a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology (2004) from Texas A&M University.

Mackenzie Waller
Landscape Architecture, John E. Sawyer Graduate Research Fellow | Mackenzie Waller is pursuing a master's degree in Landscape Architecture at the University of Washington. Mackenzie holds a B.A. in Political Economy of Industrial Societies from UC Berkeley. She is currently working on a design thesis focusing on environmental and social equity issues at one of the headwaters to the Los Angeles River.

Michael Reagan
History, John E. Sawyer Graduate Research Fellow | Michael Reagan is a Ph.D student in the history department at the University of Washington. He has a bachelors from UC Berkeley and a masters from San Francisco State University. His current research includes business and labor history and the history of US capitalism.

Communication, Sawyer Seminar Program Coordinator | Kristine Mroczek, Sawyer Seminar Program Coordinator, is a doctoral researcher in the Department of Communication. Rooted in discourse, visual and cultural studies, Kristine's work examines the social production of place and, specifically, the way tourist identities are negotiated/constituted by those who are "toured."
